'twas a pleasant day, the sun was shinning high in the sky. A day of opportunity ahead. And also 170km of roads to cover.
It was a family outing to Hanging Rock, one of many uniquely Australian rocks. The drive there was long. I was driving, so it was very exhausting. Especially in a fully loaded 7 seater Japanese van with a silly 2.0 litre engine. It was an interesting journey. Lots of roads which went up and down like the waves of an ocean, and I believe the little van I was driving left a trial of angered drivers due to my variation in speed.
For example, there was a stretch of road heading towards Eltham. It was an 70km/h zone, but because of the wave like nature of the road, I had to accelerate the car just before it hit the enormous incline. You see, if I was to be a good citizen and maintain my speed limit, I would be hitting 70km/h as I descended the slope (dragging the brake notoriously), but once I hit the incline; the engine would quickly kick to 2500 revs, and slow down to about 50. That would cause everyone behinds me to swerve, or to kindly indicate and overtake. Thus, therefore, for the ideal safety of my passengers and my car; I decided to let gravity accelerate the car as it thundered down hill. Giving momentum a gentle nudge at the bottom of the slope would kick the car to 75-80, which causes my incline to be a bit more acceptable race of 60-65.
Oh but there's worse. On the 110km/h country side roads, an incline would kick me down to 80. Now that's BAD and awfully frightening with thundering 10 tonne trucks roaring behind.
Anyway we safely arrived at Hanging Rock. It was a bit of a disappointment.
But there were lots of strange rocks to climb and conquer.
But I must point out the wonderfully amusing faces;
which happened to be formed out of coincidence.
